About Us

GLEIF is a non-profit organization established in 2014 by the Financial Stability Board. Our mission is to enhance transparency in the global marketplace by managing the Legal Entity Identifier (LEI) system. Based in Basel, we maintain the Global LEI Index—an open, accurate, and up-to-date source of information on legal entities worldwide.

We work closely with a global network of (v)LEI issuers and continue to drive innovation, including the development of the verifiable LEI (vLEI), to enable secure and trusted digital identity verification across borders, industries, and regulatory frameworks.

GLEIF has pioneered a new form of digitized organizational identity to meet the global need for automated authentication and verification of legal entities across a range of industries: the verifiable LEI (vLEI).

vLEI Hackathon:

GLEIF invites developers, entrepreneurs, policy stakeholders and innovators around the world to take part in the vLEI Hackathon and explore its potential across three key thematic areas:
-       Theme 1: Digital Assets & Financial Infrastructure (Currently Viewing)
-       Theme 2: Industry 4.0, Commercial & Finance Processes & Operations
-       Theme 3: Trade, Supply Chain Resilience, and SME Finance

Problem Statements

Theme 1: Digital Assets & Financial Infrastructures

Trusted and interoperable Identity is a prerequisite for establishing secure and stable financial markets in digital assets. Ledger infrastructures enable issuance, trading and custody of assets without the intervention of traditional intermediaries that also provide client due diligence and identification. The vLEI architecture provides a self-sovereign yet secure solution for ledger-based markets.

1. Accelerate Mainstream Adoption of Digital Asset Infrastructure:

How vLEI can unlock institutional participation in regulated on-chain finance?

Task:

Develop solutions that use vLEI credentials and trusted identity data to onboard traditional financial institutions and institutional investors into regulated digital asset ecosystems. Your solution should demonstrate how vLEIs can reduce friction, enhance compliance, and enable secure participation in digital asset markets while maintaining regulatory standards expected in traditional finance.

Implementation and demonstration goals:

- Implement vLEI-based identity (KYB/KYC) verification for traditional financial institutions entering digital /tokenized asset market
- Reduction of settlement risk in cross-border digital asset transactions
- Identify-verified tokenized securities on hybrid (on-off chain)  infrastructures and workflows
- On-chain treasury management with verified corporate controls using Chainlink’s policy engine, accelerators and CCID
- Compliant stablecoin or CBDC flows across chains using vLEI-based entity verification
- Smart contract-based asset exchanges/decentralized exchanges/DEX’s where corporate participants are authenticated via vLEI
- Include at least one solution that bridges custodial and non-custodial digital asset operations

2. Comply with financial Reporting + compliance in regulated digital assets

How to use vLEI credentials to ensure transparency, report transactions and fulfill compliance checks?

Task:

Create solutions that leverages vLEI credentials alongside Chainlink's Compliance Services (CCID, Policy Engine, and Accelerators) to automate KYB processes for digital asset service providers. Your solution should demonstrate how vLEI credentials can streamline institutional onboarding while maintaining real-time compliance monitoring across on-chain and off-chain operations.

Implementation goals:

- Integrate vLEI credentials with Chainlink's compliance infrastructure (CCID, Policy Engine, or Accelerators)
- Implement automated or streamlined KYB workflows that reduce manual verification steps for tokenisation or DeFi participation
- Demonstrate real-time AML and risk compliance monitoring using verifiable roles and credentials
- Show integration between traditional financial messaging (ISO 20022) and blockchain-based verification

Icon
3. Mainstreaming of digital assets and infrastructure

How to use the vLEI to address hurdles to participation of financial institutions in regulated digital asset markets?

Task:

Demonstrate applications in which the vLEI and related data can expand the participation of mainstream investors in and usage of tokenized assets and infrastructures, for example in areas including:

(i) provision of institutional KYC/KYB integration for tokenized asset marketplaces, (ii) Reduction of settlement risk in cross-border digital asset transactions,
(iii) Identity-verified tokenized securities on hybrid platforms or support on-chain treasury management,
(iv) compliant cross-chain stablecoin or CBDC transactions, or
(v) Smart contract-based digital asset exchanges, where each corporate participant is verified through their vLEI.
